Hazard identified: As the product was advertised as sleeping accommodation for a child, it must meet the requirements under the Cribs, Cradles and Bassinets Regulations. The product fails to meet these requirements.
As of May 9, 2019, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of the product in Canada. In the United States, there have been over 30 reports of infant fatalities relating to the use of the product and similar Rock N’ Play Sleeper products. Issue: The Fisher-Price Newborn Rock ‘n Play Sleeper model R6070 does not meet the requirements for bassinets under the Cribs, Cradles and Bassinets Regulations.
What to do: Immediately stop using the Fisher-Price Newborn Rock ‘n Play Sleeper for naptime and overnight sleep.
Product description: This recall involves the Fisher-Price Newborn Rock ‘n Play Sleeper with model number R6070. This product was sold as a freestanding seat and sleeper for use by infants weighing up to 25 pounds. The product features a freestanding metal rocking frame, an attached rigid plastic backing, and a removable seat cushion with a fabric cover. The fabric cover has solid yellow sides and a pattern with multi-coloured circles on the back and seat portion. The product is marked with model number R6070, located on the inside of one of the round hubs on the frame.
Hazard identified: As the Fisher-Price Newborn Rock ‘n Play Sleeper model R6070 was advertised as sleeping accommodation for a child, it must meet the requirements under the Cribs, Cradles and Bassinets Regulations. The product fails to meet these requirements. As a playtime or soothing seat, the product is not subject to the Cribs, Cradles and Bassinets Regulations. As of May 3, 2019, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of the product in Canada. In the United States, there have been over 30 reports of infant fatalities relating to the use of the product and similar Rock ‘n Play Sleeper products.
Consumers should immediately stop using the Fisher-Price Newborn Rock ‘n Play Sleeper for naptime and overnight sleep. At present, Health Canada is not aware of any danger associated with the product when used for supervised playtime or soothing.
Health Canada is continuing to evaluate if further actions are necessary regarding Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleepers sold by unauthorized sellers in Canada since February 2011.
