Flashback Friday – Prom Dresses

Do you remember your prom dress? Probably. I know I do. The puffy sleeves, the big bow on the butt, the saddlebags… well, not exactly saddlebags, more like swaths of fabric like Cinderella had on her blue ball gown.

My how prom dresses have changed in the almost 21 years (eep) since I graduated from high school. At the time, it was a long-standing tradition at our school that the girls who were graduating wore a white dress to prom. Of course, I had to be a bit different and wore a pink and white dress.

Here’s a little glimpse of it:

There was so much fabric in that dress… my Mom has actually made a few angel tree toppers, a Christening dress and a flower girl dress for my daughters out of the fabric from my dress.  What can I say, it was the 90s, even our hair was BIG.

When my niece graduated from high school last June, the dresses told a totally different story. Wow. These girls looked like they were on the Miss America Runway.

Take a look at the beautiful dresses (I cut off their heads to protect the innocent!):

See what I mean? Beautiful. And soooo different from what we wore (back in the day).

So since I’m getting old (my 39th birthday is very near) I thought it would be fun to pick out a prom dress that I would wear if I was going to prom this year.

Here are my top choices:

These dresses are from DressFirst.com, an online site that sells wedding dresses, prom dresses, evening dresses, holiday dresses, homecoming dresses, etc. at really resonable prices. Certainly less than the 50,000 metres of fabric that went into my dress. Right now, DressFirst.com has free shipping on all dresses until January 26, 2014.

Thankfully I don’t have to choose a prom dress this year (but I’ll be helping my daughter find one in about 7 years, if she’ll let me). There are so many to choose from, I wouldn’t be able to decide. So which one of the three dress would you pick? Tell me about your prom dress? Would you wear it again if your prom was this year?
