Flooding in the 3rd floor construction area at the QEII Halifax Infirmary site
On Saturday August 3 a broken hot water valve caused flooding in a construction area on the 3rd floor at the QEII Halifax Infirmary site.
Thanks to the quick action of staff, physicians and fire officials the water was stopped. The water caused residual damage in some areas including the the 3rd floor diagnostic imaging construction area and the sterile processing unit on the 2nd floor. Cleanup began immediately and is ongoing.
Operating rooms are proceeding with urgent/emergency cases however 9 surgeries that can be safely postponed have been cancelled for August 4. Any unexpected service or facility closures will be updated here.
The emergency department and other services remain open. Scheduled appointments and procedures in all other areas of the facility are proceeding as usual.
We appreciate the public’s understanding as we continue to respond to this situation. We will provide updates regarding impacts on our programs and services as they become available.
