The province is supporting new initiatives that help build stronger, diverse communities in Nova Scotia.

MLA Patricia Arab, on behalf of Communities, Culture and
Heritage Minister Tony Ince, announced today, March 20, that government will provide $4,000 to the Afghan Society of Halifax for promotion of Nawruz, a traditional celebration of spring that starts at the vernal equinox.

“This will help the Afghani community, and all communities that celebrate Nawruz in Nova Scotia, mark an important celebration,” said Ms. Arab. “By celebrating our diversity, we become stronger as a province.”

“This funding helps fulfil our mission to support the Afghani-Canadian community in Halifax and connect them with other communities in Halifax,” said Gulmakai Muhammad Savar, president, Afghan Society of Halifax.

The Diversity and Community Capacity Fund supports activities that build awareness, celebrate and honour all cultures and diversity.
