Ground search and rescue uses GPS to find lost father and son

From RCMP:
Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Halifax District in Cole Harbour received a report last night at 10:44 PM that a 34-year old man and his 10-year old son were lost in the woods near the Forest Hills Extension.

They had been fishing, but left on a different path than the one on which they entered.  Realizing they were lost, the father called 911.  Halifax Ground Search and Rescue was called out and 911 dispatchers were able to provide GPS coordinates from the cellular call, accurate to within 21 m. Using these coordinates, searchers were easily able to locate the pair and both were found and returned without injury.
