Nova Scotia businesses looking to increase their global strength are invited to apply for a new matchmaking opportunity by April 1.

For the first time, ConnectNS is bringing together a team of business and academic leaders from across the province to help Nova Scotia companies grow, one meeting at a time, through an opportunity called LeaderConnect 2014.

LeaderConnect 2014 is being presented by ConnectNS, an initiative led by Nova Scotia Business Inc., and is focused on growing Nova Scotia’s economy and building international awareness through the connections of the province’s leaders, Nova Scotians, alumni and expats.

Close to 50 members of the ConnectNS leadership team have signed up to offer their time and expertise.

“We’re ready to help Nova Scotia companies become more globally competitive,” said John Risley, president and CEO of Clearwater Fine Foods Incorporated and co-chair of ConnectNS.

LeaderConnect 2014 will provide an opportunity for Nova Scotia companies to meet face-to-face or via Skype with a ConnectNS leader. The matchmaking aims to help Nova Scotia companies take advantage of the knowledge and experiences of the ConnectNS leadership team, while raising awareness of the value and importance trade plays in creating a prosperous Nova Scotia.

“This is an example of leaders from Nova Scotia’s private sector and academia coming together to share their knowledge and experiences to help entrepreneurs and future leaders,” said Michel Samson, Minister of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism. “The Nova Scotia commission on building our new economy
has recommended a much stronger leadership role for the private sector, along with social enterprises and community economic development groups. I congratulate the LeaderConnect 2014 participants for doing just that.”

Each meeting will provide the chance for businesses to discuss and explore opportunities such as servicing new sectors, industries, or markets. The content of the meeting will depend on the applicant’s needs and the leader’s range of experience.

“It’s all about giving Nova Scotia companies that extra leg-up to help them become more successful,” said Saint Mary’s University chancellor, Bob Kelly, who is also a co-chair of ConnectNS.

There are a limited number of matches that can be made, and a selection committee will evaluate each application. The deadline to apply is April 1. Business people interested in applying for a meeting, or for more information about LeaderConnect 2014, visit www.connectns.ca/leaderconnect .

ConnectNS represents a network of close to 2,000 members from over 40 countries.
