Members of Halifax District RCMP in Musquodoboit Harbour held the first checkpoint of the season last week with members of the local Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA).

May is motorcycle awareness month and in an effort to raise awareness about road safety, Halifax District RCMP in Musquodoboit Harbour will be conducting checkpoints over the next few months to provide motorists with safety tips when sharing the road with motorcycle enthusiasts. Approximately 300 vehicles went through last week’s checkpoint and flyers with motorcycle safety information were handed out to drivers.

“The majority collisions involving motorcycles are caused by car drivers, not motorcyclists”, says Cpl. Aaron Glode. “Conducting these checkpoints provides motorists and motorcyclists with important information about what to look for on the roads.”

The RCMP would like to remind drivers to be aware of the increasing number of motorcyclists on the roads this time of year and to always keep safety in mind while driving.
