Halifax District RCMP officer, Cst. Bart Leppan, was the recipient of the Big Brothers Big Sisters 2015 INSPIRE Public Service award last evening at the award ceremony held at Seaport Market.

The Inspire Service Award, honouring the memory of Pte.

Nathan Smith, recognizes a mentor who serves his/her community, province or country while in uniform. This individual will have demonstrated mentoring, and will have made personal sacrifices to serve and protect.

Cst. Leppan is currently on a northern relief in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut and was not able to accept the award in person. However when Bart was notified he was receiving this award he was extremely honoured and humbled. Cst. Leppan said; ‘The opportunity to start each day with the possibility of assisting a young person change the direction of their life to one of happiness and achievement is extremely gratifying.’

Insp. Martin Marin from Halifax District RCMP was thrilled to learn that Bart received this monumental award. He said, ‘I am extremely proud of Bart for receiving this award. He has dedicated several years to helping youth at risk through his work with the Hybrid Hub and in his role as a community policing officer.’
