Halifax District RCMP has been responding to multiple calls of shots fired in wooded areas throughout the district since first light this morning as duck hunting season opens.

Halifax District RCMP reminds residents living in or near wooded areas that duck hunting season opened this morning. Open season for ducks in Nova Scotia runs from October 22, 2015 to January 15, 2016. All calls of shots fired since sunrise have been associated with duck hunting.

Although it is lawful to hunt for ducks in Nova Scotia, RCMP wish to inform the public any hunting practices contrary to the Migratory Birds Hunting Regulations may be reported to Environment Canada Wildlife Enforcement at 506-364-5044, your local RCMP detachment, Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources at 1-800-565-2224, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
