Halifax Regional Police is investigating an incident where a man filling up his vehicle with gas on the side of the road, was struck by an object hanging off the trailer of a passing vehicle in Bedford at approximately 9 a.m. this morning.

A man was pulled over to the side of the road outbound on Bedford Highway near Hammonds Plains Road filling up his vehicle with gas when a large piece of wood hanging off a trailer of a passing vehicle struck him. He was subsequently slammed into his own vehicle and then fell to the ground. EHS transported him to hospital with what are described as significant but non-life-threatening injuries at this time.

The male driver of the truck hauling the trailer pulled over on Convoy Run after a witness to the incident flagged him down to advise him of what had happened. Members of the Collision Investigation Unit and the Forensic Identification Section are on scene conducting an investigation into this matter.

Bedford Highway was shut down between Hammonds Plains Road and Convoy Run temporarily between approximately 9 and 10:50 a.m. but traffic is now flowing in both directions.
