Halifax District RCMP responds to weapons complaint

At 9 a.m. this morning Halifax District RCMP responded to a complaint of 4 males with weapons near a residence on Alex Lane.

As a result of this complaint, coupled with gunshots near this location last evening, a significant police presence was observed in the community. Halifax District RCMP, along with the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Halifax Regional Police ERT, and HRP K-9 Unit, attended the location. As a safety precaution, schools, residents and business were asked to remain in doors until police could confirm that there was no risk to the public.

Police will continue to speak with residents to determine what actually took place this morning.

“Our positive relationships with the community will work towards holding those responsible for discharging firearms in a random manner,” says Inspector Jason Popik, Halifax District RCMP. “Incidents such as last evening are not a reflection of a community that prides itself in helping others.”

If you have any information regarding this incident you are asked to contact Halifax District RCMP or Halifax Regional Police at 902-490-5020. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can also contact Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit tips by Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca. Calls to Crime Stoppers are not taped or traced and if police make an arrest and lay charges based on a tip, callers qualify for a cash award.
