Halifax Regional Municipality asks residents to help shape the city budget

Friday, Oct. 10, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting residents to participate in the 2015 budget consultation process by sharing ideas on municipal service priorities and how they would like to see municipal tax dollars spent.

Citizens can engage in this process online and by attending upcoming Community Council sessions as follows:

:
• Halifax & West Community Council (Districts 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) – Tuesday, Oct. 14, 6 p.m., Council Chambers, 1841 Argyle Street, Halifax

• North West Community Council (Districts 1, 13, 14, 15, 16) – Monday, Oct. 20, 7 p.m., Acadia Hall, 650 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville

For more information on the Community Council sessions and agendas visit www.halifax.ca/commcoun/index.php.

:
The municipality is once again using its online Budget Allocator tool via its web-based engagement portal www.shapeyourcityhalifax.ca. This tool provides people with a unique glimpse into the experience of balancing the city’s budget. It allows residents to simulate adjusting the municipal tax dollars allocated to various services like transit, parks and policing – and see the potential impact this has on both service delivery and the overall budget.

The feedback provided online and in person at Community Council sessions will help inform the municipality of resident’s priorities for programs and services for the upcoming budget year.
