Officers assigned to the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are investigating two break and enters and a sexual assault that took place yesterday morning in Halifax.
At 5:57 a.m., police responded to an apartment building in the 1500 block of Barrington Street for a break and enter in progress. A 27-year-old woman had been sleeping in her bedroom and awoke to find a man in her bed. She yelled at the man and he fled the apartment on foot. Further investigation determined that the man had sexually assaulted the woman. While investigating this incident, officers arrested a man at 7:01 a.m. inside the building. He was transported to police headquarters to be interviewed by investigators.
At 11:30 a.m., a 34-year-old woman in the same building reported that at 5:45 a.m., she awoke to find a man standing in her bedroom. She confronted him and he left the apartment on foot, after apologizing for being there. In both cases, it’s unclear how the suspect entered the apartments.
The man who was arrested, was released without charges at 5 p.m. and the investigation is continuing.
The suspect is described as an Asian man in his twenties, 5’5”, slim build, clean shaven, with short dark hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a shirt with large dark horizontal stripes.
