In August of 2019, Halifax Search and Rescue placed into service a new Remote Rescue vehicle. This acquisition required nearly two years of research and planning by team volunteers. It was also the culmination of a capital fund raising campaign to provide the over $150,00 required for the vehicle.

Approximately one half of HSAR call outs now are to known locations of individuals in remote parts of the municipality. The new vehicle provides for rapid access to first responder medical gear, along with command and control functions. It was built in Nova Scotia by Tri-Star Industries of Yarmouth.

Rescue One, the call sign for the new vehicle, has been completely funded through the efforts of Halifax Search and Rescue volunteers. Annual fundraisers include the Eco Endurance Challenge and the Haunted Hollow. A further legacy gift to the team had a significant impact on turning the vehicle into reality.

A special note: This new high end rescue vehicle has a name located at the front of the vehicle. “Carmen” was a member of the Halifax Search and Rescue who passed away. The vehicle carries her name as a tribute to her dedication and memory.
