Halifax Welcoming “World’s Greatest Living Soprano”

By Brian Covert

With our world opening up, Nova Scotia has seen a stream of world class talent come to our shores to entertain us and enrich our community. Contributing to this has been the Cecilia Concerts who have recently welcomed Grammy Award winning soprano Golda Schultz and Cree composer and flutist Jessica McMann to our stages.

Now, coming up during Cecilia’s 34th season is Sondra Radvanovsky who many consider the world’s greatest living soprano. Radvanovsky will appear at the Dalhousie Arts Centre’s Rebecca Cohn Auditorium, Nov. 5 at 7:30 pm.

“I am thrilled and honored that we are presenting Sondra Radvanovsky in recital,” says Cecilia Concerts chairperson Jules Chamberlain. “She is an artist who always delivers a stunning, phenomenal program. Beyond her vocal power, she is a communicator of musical and lyrical emotion.”

Radvanovsky’s voice, which the Chicago Tribune referred to as “the most beautiful and thrilling in opera today”, has a depth and exquisite colour matched only by dramatic acting ability and versatility across a remarkable range of repertoire. Her career has seen her perform leading roles in every major opera house including London’s Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scala, and Opernhaus Zurich. To see Radvanovsky on stage, here is a video of her performing with the Canadian Opera Company in 2018.

Advance tickets ($37.50 to $87.50) for Radvanovsky’s K’jipuktuk/Halifax recital are available at ceciliaconcerts.ca and by phone through the Dalhousie Centre Box Office at 902-494-3820 or 800-874-1669.
