Happy trails to you; take the October Trails Challenge

Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – Fall is a perfect time of year to stay active outdoors by exploring the dozens of trails, parks, greenways, and hiking routes located across the Halifax Regional Municipality.

The municipality and Hike Nova Scotia are encouraging people to make the most of their efforts to stay active this fall by taking the October Trails Challenge!

To participate, individuals, families, community groups and schools are encouraged to visit our many outdoor trails and parks, take photos or videos of some favourite moments along the way, and share through social media tagging @hfxrec on Twitter and using the hashtag #HappyTrailsHfx on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Find easy to use trail maps in your community by visiting www.halifax.ca/trails, check out Hike Nova Scotia’s guided hike series at www.hikenovascotia.ca/projects/guided-hikes/ and visit www.walkaboutns.ca for the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s online resources including walking maps and groups.

Registering for the October Trails Challenge is easy; individuals, families, community groups and schools can enter online at www.halifax.ca/trails/TrailChallenge.php and record their participation to be eligible for prizes, as follows:

Individual/Family: $100 credit towards municipal Parks and Recreation programming, ‘A for Adventure’ book, a Halifax Adventure Trails book, or pedometers

Community Group: $250 towards an outdoor physical activity initiative

School: $250 towards an outdoor physical activity initiative

All prizes will be randomly drawn after Oct. 31, 2016. Please note only prize winners will be contacted.
