Hate crime: Two youths arrested

Halifax District RCMP has arrested two youths in relation to a hate motivated mischief that occurred in Beechville.

On July 3, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to a report of a possible break and enter at Ridgecliff middle school on Beech Tree Run in Beechville. When RCMP officers arrived at the scene they observed fresh graffiti painted on the building and safely arrested two youths in possession of spray paint. No evidence of a break in was observed. Some of the graffiti is considered to have been motivated by hate towards an identifiable group.

The two youths, later released on conditions, are scheduled to appear in Halifax Youth Justice Court on July 27 at 9:30 a.m. to face a charge of Mischief. The RCMP has recommended the youths be referred to restorative justice.

The RCMP takes incidents motivated by hate seriously and condemns criminal acts against identifiable groups.
