Help ‘paint the town’ at this weekend’s placemaking event in Halifax

Friday, Sept.

5, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Citizens are invited to attend and participate in a community-led street painting and neighbourhood placemaking celebration tomorrow, Sept. 6, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the corner of Deacon Street and Windcrest Terrace in Halifax.

Members of the community will unite to paint a beautiful design at the intersection, in addition to other activities and celebrations throughout the day. Motorists are advised that Deacon Street and Windcrest Terrace will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday to accommodate this event.

This placemaking project aims to beautify the streets, inspire closer connections between neighbours, and bring a sense of safety through a more connected community. It is supported by the municipal Placemaking Program and funded through a grant from the 4Cs Foundation, a private arts foundation. The community worked with Anna Stowe, a local artist and illustrator with previous placemaking experience, to help interpret the community’s vision through the painting’s design. For more information on this event visit their Facebook page.

For more information and applications to participate in the 2015 HRM Placemaking Program, visit http://www.halifax.ca/culture/CommunityArts/Placemaking.php. Deadline for applications is October 31, 2014.
