Highway 103 shut down as RCMP investigate fatal collision, Birchtown, N.S.

Shelburne County RCMP are currently at the scene of a two-vehicle collision that closed Highway 103 between exits 27 (Birchtown) and 28 (Clyde River) in Shelburne County.

At approximately 3:20 p.m.

, RCMP, Emergency Health Services (EHS) and Shelburne Fire Dept responded to a head-on collision between two passenger cars. Preliminary investigation determined that the collision occurred when a car travelling west collided with a vehicle travelling east. The lone occupants of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene. No further information is being released at this time.

RCMP expect Highway 103 be closed in both directions for at least four hours while police continue their investigation. Traffic is being rerouted. A collision reconstructionist has been called to the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
