Victoria County RCMP are currently at the scene of a three-vehicle collision that closed Highway 105 in the Baddeck area.

At approximately 2:05 p.m., RCMP, Emergency Health Services (EHS) and Baddeck Fire Department responded to a head-on collision between a Honda Civic and a tractor trailer.

Preliminary investigation determined that the lone occupant of the Honda civic was stopped in traffic waiting to make a left hand turn (westbound) when her vehicle was struck from behind by a pick-up truck. After impact, her vehicle was pushed into the eastbound lane colliding with the oncoming tractor trailer. The driver of the Honda, a 45-year-old woman from Middle River, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pick-up truck was assessed at the scene by EHS and released. The driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt.

Highway 105 is closed in both directions and RCMP expect the highway to be closed for several hours while police continue their investigation. Vehicles under 15 tonnes are being rerouted through the Old Margaree Road. Vehicles over 15 tonnes should find an alternate route as a bridge on the Old Margaree Road has a weight restriction.

A collision reconstructionist has been called to the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
