Hit & Run At Portland Street Bus Stop

On Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 4:20 PM, the Halifax Regional Police responded to a Hit & Run / Pedestrian MVA that had occurred near the intersection of Baker Dr. and Portland St. in Dartmouth. 
According to witnesses, the 25 year old female victim was seated at a bus stop located near the TD Bank when an eastbound vehicle on Portland St. swerved, jumped the curb and struck her. The driver briefly exited his vehicle, then fled the scene despite the efforts of a witness to prevent his departure. Witnesses were able to obtain a vehicle description, suspect description and plate on the vehicle before it fled. At approximately 6:30 PM members of the West Division Quick Response Team located and arrested 25 year old male from the Halifax area.
 
The accused has been held in custody pending his appearance in Dartmouth Provincial Court in the morning. The accused will face charges of Assault with a Weapon, Dangerous Operation of a Motor vehicle and Failing to Stop or Remain at the Scene of an MVA.
 
The victim in this matter was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was later released from hospital.
