Holiday Hostess with the Mostest

I love introducing people to things that I love and that they haven’t yet tried. That’s why I’m always excited to be invited to test foods and products and share them on the blog.

I also love hosting get togethers over the holidays because the house is clean (sort of), decorated with light and love (so you can’t really see the mess anyway), and people are generally in a party mood (no Grinches allowed).

So you know that I was over the moon to be invited to the preview of the 2014 President’s Choice Holiday Program in Halifax this week (thank you, Margaret and team!).

I was joined by other local bloggers and lifestyle journalists for a night of non-stop treats. Appetizers, coffee with candy cane eggnog, sparkling water, desert and a turkey dinner prepared by local chef, Richard Julien.

Where do I start? Ok, the appetizers… while I tasted a few, my faves are:

cburgerspringrollsPC World of Flavours Cheeseburger Spring Rolls
“distinctive cheeseburger flavours of beef, cheese, pickles and mustard – all rolled up in crispy spring roll wrappers”
These little buggers are soooo good. It’s like the fancy spring roll meets football game appetizers. It sounds wrong, but it totally works.

jalapenosticksPC Tortilla & Jalapeño Cheese Sticks
“Red and green jalapeños are combined with cheese and salsa flavours, then rolled in a colourful coating of crushed wheat crumbs and tortilla chips”
These cheesy good sticks have a bit of kick to them. They would be delicious served with sour cream or aeoli. I had you at cheese, right?

lobstermacandcheesePC Lobster Mac ‘n’ Cheese Bites
“Tender macaroni and cheese is combined with chunks of wild and sustainably sourced Atlantic lobster”
I’ll be honest, I was afraid to try this interesting mix of food. Normally I don’t like to mess with traditional mac and cheese. I certainly don’t like to alter lobster (I don’t even dip it in butter or vinegar, I like it fresh and plain). But I stepped outside of my comfort zone and an I glad that I did! This was yummy. I can’t even begin to describe the taste. Trust me that it was rich and good and something you need to try!

You can find out more about all these products here. Don’t forget that all President’s Choice products are now free from artificial colours and flavours which is a really big deal (for me, anyway).

I’m hungry again just writing this post. Tomorrow, I’ll share with you the recipes for the turkey dinner that Chef Julien made for us last night. You won’t want to miss it. It will feature something that is going to change your life… or at least your gravy!!

Disclaimer: While I was treated to a lovely night and treats by President’s Choice, this blog contains my own reviews of the products I had the opportunity to try.

Dark humour for dark times.
