Homicide on Portland Street: Man charged with second-degree murder

Police have arrested a man in relation to a homicide that occurred yesterday in Dartmouth.

At approximately 1:15 p.m., police responded to an altercation between two men in the 200 block of Portland Street. Officers arrived on scene and located a man who had been stabbed. The victim was transported to hospital where he later died.

Officers arrested a 33-year-old man nearby without incident.

The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service conducted an autopsy and ruled the manner of death to be a homicide. The victim was identified as 27-year-old Benjamin Ward Clattenburg. Our thoughts are with Benjamin’s loved ones at this difficult time.

Investigators from the Special Investigations Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division have charged 33-year-old Jamie Duckenfield with second-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear today in Dartmouth Provincial Court.

Police are continuing to investigate the case. At this time, investigators do not believe that this was a random incident. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident or video from the area, who has not already spoken with police, to call 902-490-5020
