Wednesday, July 24, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – What’s in a name? HRM and Metro Transit are inviting residents to put on their creative hats and help come up with a name for the new harbour ferry scheduled to go into service next spring.

This is the first new vessel added to the ferry fleet in over 25 years, and will enable Metro Transit to increase service frequency on the Woodside-Halifax route.

Beginning today until Wednesday, August 7, residents can submit their name ideas for the new vessel online at www.halifax.ca/surveys. Metro Transit and Corporate Communications staff will review all submissions and narrow it down to a short list based on appropriateness and originality. A final list of five names from which residents can cast votes for their favourite monikers will then be determined by a selection committee comprised of Mayor Savage, one member from each of the three community councils and the directors of Metro Transit and Corporate Communications. The name receiving the most votes will adorn the new ferry, subject to final approval by Transport Canada, and the resident who submitted the winning name will receive a one-year conventional transit pass courtesy of Metro Transit and HRM.

Residents are encouraged to submit as many name suggestions as they wish and to check halifax.ca over the coming weeks for the opportunity to vote for the winner.
