HRM Partners in Policing to attend youth-led African Heritage Event, Halifax Regional Municipality, N.S.

Tomorrow, officers from HRM Partners in Policing, in conjunction with the Black Cultural Centre, will be hosting the 2nd annual youth-led African Heritage Event for RCMP/HRP members at the Black Cultural Centre.

Tomorrow, officers from HRM Partners in Policing, in conjunction with the Black Cultural Centre, will be hosting the 2nd annual youth-led African Heritage Event for RCMP/HRP members at the Black Cultural Centre.

Time: Wednesday, March 19th, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m

The event is for officers in Halifax to partake in just prior to the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination as declared by the United Nations in 1966 on March 21st.

Twenty students from the Discovering Opportunities Pilot Program at Graham Creighton Jr. High will be leading the day’s events which will consist of African dancing and drumming, an African Heritage Quiz (created by the youth), and a presentation of African Nova Scotian History by principal Ken Fells and RCMP Sgt. Craig Smith.

Special thanks goes to RCMP Community Program Officer Esther Medley-Smith and HRP Constable Shaun Carvery who assisted the youth and community partners in designing this event.
