I jimmy choo choo you

AllyG: I’m not complaining about having a mid-week holiday, but I will state that coming back in on Thursday makes you feel as though you’ve had two Mondays. The good news is, it’s like having two Fridays as well! Yay!

Ok, so I am sure some of you have heard the news already. Jimmy Choo is designing a line for H&M. For reals.  Now, y’all are aware of how excited we are that H&M is coming to Halifax and we promise to update you on anything we hear. Although, it was slightly embarrassing that you, our readers, actually updated us to the fact that H&M was indeed coming here in the first place. Whatever. We have grown so much since our humble beginnings…two months ago.

The media release issued by H&M states:

This autumn, British accessory brand Jimmy Choo will bring its international glamour and covetable shoes and bags to selected H&M stores. The collection will be available from November 14 in around 200 stores across the world. It is the first time that H&M is collaborating with an accessories brand, and to celebrate Jimmy Choo will extend its design vision for this collection to women’s clothing to complement the accessories. Further exciting news is that this collaboration includes a men’s collection of shoes, bags and accessories.

Ladies and gents, this is exciting news. I think this autumn we should all celebrate the collaboration of Choo and H&M with a cocktail. And I’m not just saying that because I’ll be able to have a little nip here and there of the sauce. Ok, I am. But it’s as good an excuse as any.

I can only hope that there will be some sort of relation to the “Billie”

Billie choo

A gorgeous Lizard print leather sandal. Yum.

This Friday, another favourite is Roksanda Ilincic. Her clothes are ultra-girly,  and they sort of remind me of playing dress up in a mix-match of my mom and grandmother’s clothes when I was younger. I mean this in the nicest way. Her designs are a tad far out, but timeless at the same time. Net-a-Porter has a great interview with her where she explains her approach.

Totally garish in an acceptable way. You know?

L-A: Okay, what? It’s Friday? When did that happen. Between the holiday and working from home, I had no idea it was Friday already. Not that I’m complaining, because Friday is Favourite Friday time.  And I’ve got lots of favourites this week. So many, that I’m going to make a list! Yes! Lists! But before I make my list, I have to tell you that I love the title of today’s post because it reminds me of my most favourite ever Simpsons moment (I’m no Simpsons afficianado or geek or what have you, but this episode kills me everytime):

choose

I debated hunting down a video clip from the episode, but I quickly realized I’de be up all night doing that. And besides, I have more important favourites to tell you about. So let’s get started:

5. Since we’re talking shoes (I’m not convinced I will like Jimmy Choo’s H&M designs, but I’m still excited to hear about the collaboration), I need to introduce you to these bitchin’ Louboutins:

They kill me. Picture them with a pencil skirt. You’d be rocking the sexy librarian look, except, you’d be sexier.

4. This scene from 27 dresses:

Hilarious. I was watching it this evening with some lady friends and I had to share. I forgot how much I enjoyed that scene. Also, Katherine Heigel had pretty great wardrobe in that movie. Why Grey’s Anatomy folk choose to downplay her and make her character insipid, well, I will never understand. And why aren’t we seeing more James Marsden in romantic comedy leads?

3. And speaking of designers doing budget versions of their work, I love that Nylon magazine spotted the similarities between Anna Sui’s “Gossip Girl inspired” collection for Target and her Fall ‘06 collection:

annasui_06vs09

Not so much inspired by Gossip Girl as by her fall ‘06 collection. I’m of two minds about this. First of all: she’s ripping herself off, so no big deal. Secondly: I don’t mind if you’re going to be marketing stuff to me, but be a wee bit honest about it.  I don’t care if it’s a three year old design, so long as it’s still cute (because most of us couldn’t afford that dress back in ‘06, so why not make it available and affordable now). But don’t tell me that her inspiration was a tv show that wasn’t even on air when she first designed the dress. But if you do want to dress like Blair, you can without either collection  (for significantly more than what Target will charge, but probably less than Anna Sui does). All you need to do is check out Abiail Lorick’s collections, as she is the designer of Eleanor Waldorf’s “collection” that Blair is often seen sporting:

2. Next favourite item is a new (to me) fashion magazine out of Montreal called Worn:

They had you at “shoe issue” didn’t they?  I haven’t had tons of time to poke around at Worn, but I like what I see.

1. This adorable, trompe l’oeil, funtime designer bag by Longchamps:

The “Ceci est un It Bag” est fabulous, non? Just in case you weren’t 100% on how cute it is, it’s listed on their site as “trend: surrealism”. I like my purses surreal. This one tops the Anya Hindmarch “I’m not a plastic bag” from a few years ago (not that it stops me from occasionally enjoying mine). In case you were wondering what a real, not screenprinted on canvas Longchamps bag looks like:

Of course, you probably aren’t looking to drop $1100 on the real deal, or even $400 for the surreal deal. But this is where the bonus favourite comes in. One of my favourite sites, Ideeli (which is “members” only…but bear with me. becoming a member is free and kind of worth it) is going to be giving one of the Ceci est un It Bags away. They won’t say when, but I’ve been chomping at the bit for it to happen (which is an appropriate metaphor, seeing as Longchamps is named after a horse racing track in Paris). Ideeli does these limited time sales and giveaways of trop chic designer goodies.  Right now you can score these green Guillaume Hinfray shoes for $163 (regular $440) or Pucci shoes for $215 (regular $825):

I don’t know if I’d actually kill for those shoes, but I’d think about it. I’d definitely maim for them. (Ideeli also has a blog that I enjoy).

Okay, c’est tout pour moi. Have a happy weekend. Maybe if you live outside of Halifax you’ll get to see the sun this weekend.

xoxo.
