Halifax District RCMP have seen a recent increase in stolen motor vehicles in the Tantallon area over the last 2 weeks, particularly in Beechville-Lakeside-Timberlea (BLT).
There have been five recent thefts of motor vehicles in BLT. Four of the five stolen vehicles have been recovered, with damage occurring to the vehicles. They appear to have been stolen, driven and then abandoned. The public is reminded that this is largely a crime of opportunity, where suspects are often looking to steal items from vehicles, they come across vehicles left unlocked, with keys in them and subsequently steal the vehicles. In order to prevent these crimes of opportunity citizens are asked to not keep valuables in their vehicles, lock their vehicles and refrain from leaving keys in their cars.
The public is asked to immediately report to the police any suspicious activity in their communities where it is believed theft from motor vehicles, or thefts of motor vehicles, may be, or may about to be, occurring.
Anyone with information about these incidents, and who is responsible, is asked to call Halifax District RCMP at (902) 490-5020 or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. The public can also get in touch with Crime Stoppers by texting TIP202 and a message to CRIMES (274637) or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca.
