Information from caller helps police find hit-and-run driver

**** RCMP Media Release

Information from a caller helped RCMP locate the suspect in a Cole Harbour hit-and-run investigation yesterday.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., a caller reported that a female driver had struck two parked, unoccupied vehicles on Colby Dr. in Cole Harbour, then left the area. No one was injured. The caller had recorded the make, model and colour of the vehicle, a description of the driver and the direction of travel.

Members used the description given by the caller to locate the suspect driving on Greenwich Dr. and initiated a traffic stop. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was arrested without incident.

Police determined that the 15-year-old female from Cole Harbour did not have a valid driver’s licence and had taken the vehicle she was driving without consent. She was released into her parents’ custody and charges are pending.

The RCMP would like to thank the caller who gave the helpful information. License plate numbers and descriptions of a driver and vehicle can assist in investigations. Residents are asked to record this information if it is safe to do so, should they see a crime happening.

The investigation is ongoing.
