At 2:40 A.M. numerous HRP officers were dispatched to 1333 South Park Street in Halifax. A 911 call was received from a male who stated that someone had just broken into his apartment and that this person had a knife. Officers arrived and located the caller who stated that he was able to escape from his apartment and he believed the suspect was still on the 10th floor.
Officers arrived on the 10th floor and heard a female screaming from down the hall. The female was bleeding and stated that the suspect was still in her apartment. Police entered the apartment and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. The male victim had defensive cuts to his hands and the female victim had several cuts to her face and head area. Both were taken to hospital with non- life threatening injuries.
These were unprovoked assaults. The accused and victims were not known to each other. The suspect, a 19 year old male is being held for court on Monday and will be charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, overcoming resistance to commission of an offence (choking), forcible confinement and break and enter times 2.
