Jamaican Independence Day Celebrated In Parade Square

This morning saw a gathering of V.I.Ps in Parade Square to mark Jamaican Independence Day. Her Excellency The Jamaican  Commissioner of Canada visited Halifax to raise the Jamaican flag. Also attended by the honourable Mayor Peter Kelly the Ceremony was an emotional reminder of the past and of the future for Jamaicans around the globe.  The ceremony included prayer, the Canadian national anthem and the Jamaican national anthem. A speech from the Jamaican Commissioner Evadne Coye, Peter Kelly and the raising of the flag as two descendants of the Jamaican Maroons blow the abeng.
