Last Comic Standing: Final Five

Success!

Jonathan Thymius, the bane of my existence (not really…but for an hour every Monday night, and that’s annoying enough), was eliminated on Monday night’s episode of Last Comic Standing! Maybe there is hope for America’s sense of humor after all.

And that left us with only five comedians left on Last Comic Standing – wow. This show has gone by quickly, don’t you think? Let’s discuss the five comedy sets we saw on Last Comic Standing this week.

Roy Wood Jr.: I’ve enjoyed Roy every week, but I’m not sure I’ve ever been blown away by him. I chuckle, but I don’t repeat his jokes the next day. I liked his joke about being the last single guy of his friends. I also loved how he brought the set back around to his idea of having non-racist white people getting wristbands. I think it was his best set so far.
Tommy Johnigan: Tommy is another one of my favorites in the competition. He also looks so much like the groom from a wedding I attended this weekend that I almost expected him to mention his recent marriage in Nova Scotia. His set was OK, but it wasn’t his funniest to date. I definitely don’t want to see him get eliminated, but I think he can do better.
Myq Kaplan: I think Myq might be my favorite comedian left in the competition. He can still be surpassed by either Roy or Tommy, but so far he’s my pick to win. I thought his joke about inter-racial marriage and gay marriage was hilarious. And smart. That’s why I like him. The stuff about women voting leading to furniture and horses voting was also fantastic. Overall it was a really, really good set.
Felipe Esparza: Oh, Felipe Esparza. With Jonathan Thymius gone, Felipe is officially my least favorite in the group. His style is just not for me. The stuff about good looks being wasted on his gay brother was mildly funny. I smiled, I didn’t laugh.
Mike DeStefano: Mike is another comic who I’m not really into. I thought his Mel Gibson joke was weak, but the line when he said he found a $20 bill near a homeless guy and said “You should have found this…pay attention” made me laugh. I’m not a huge fan of Mike, but I thought this was one of his better sets.

So who should go? Based on these sets, I think Felipe should go. But I wouldn’t mind if Mike went, they’re pretty interchangeable to me. I’d like to see Roy, Myq and Tommy battle it out in the end. What did you think?
