Laurie Provincial Park in HRM will take on a new look, providing visitors with a more pleasant experience in the spring.

The park, at Grand Lake, is undergoing a $2.5-million, Canada-Nova Scotia Infrastructure Program redevelopment project.

"With this funding, government continues to make life better for Nova Scotia families who can enjoy the spectacular natural beauty of the province by visiting our modern parks," said John MacDonell, Minister of Natural Resources.

Improvements to the park will include:
— a new visitors services area that includes an administration building, camping visitor and parking
— upgraded campsites, including tenting, trailer and RV sites
— a seasonal floating dock
— a park programming area with a small kiosk/stage for interpretive and educational events
— upgraded walking paths

Construction work beginning this week will occur throughout the park involving heavy equipment and truck traffic. As a result, the park will be closed until spring.

The Department of Natural Resources is aware of the inconvenience to off-season visitors, but it is necessary for public safety in a construction zone to restrict access.
