NOTE: A list of beaches that will continue to have lifeguard service until Monday, Sept. 1, and on designated weekends into September, follows this release.
Lifeguard supervision is ending for the season at many beaches around the province this weekend.

Supervision by the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service will end at the following beaches at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24:

— Port Maitland and Lake Ellenwood beaches, Yarmouth Co.
— Glenwood Park Beach, Argyle Co.
— Mavillette Beach, Digby Co.
— Heather Beach, Cumberland Co.
— Dollar Lake and Clam Harbour beaches, Halifax Regional Municipality
— Bayswater Beach, Lunenburg Co.
— Pomquet and Bayfield beaches, Antigonish Co.
— Port Hood and Inverness beaches, Inverness Co.
— Mira Gut Beach, Cape Breton Regional Municipality
— Ingonish Beach, Victoria Co.
— Point Michaud Beach, Richmond Co.

Lifeguards have been supervising the beaches from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily since June 28. Since the service began 42 years ago, there has not been a drowning during supervised hours.

The Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service and the Lifesaving Society, Nova Scotia Branch, are contracted by the Department of Health and Wellness to provide supervision at 24 Nova Scotia beaches. They also guard some federal and municipal beaches. A complete list is available at www.nsls.ns.ca .
