Lunenburg District RCMP is investigating the death of a local fisherman in Stonehurst South.
At 1 a.m. this morning, Lunenburg District RCMP and Emergency Health Services (EHS) responded to a complaint of a missing 79-year-old fisherman.
The search for the missing man involved the Lunenburg, Bridgewater, Dayspring and Blockhouse Fire departments and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) who dispatched a cormorant helicopter to the area.
An extensive search of the area was conducted and tragically, the man’s body was located in the water at approximately 5:10 a.m. this morning.
The RCMP would like to acknowledge the great work done by the dedicated volunteer firefighters who worked tirelessly in challenging conditions to bring this difficult search to a close. The investigation is continuing and RCMP do not suspect foul play.
