A 46-year-old man accused of human trafficking, sexual assault and prostitution-related charges has been released from custody.

Duane Alan Rhyno, a Lower Sackville lawyer, appeared in Kentville provincial court Thursday and was released on his own recognnizance and $5,000 non-cash surety.

Rhyno was arrested Sept. 30 in Greenwich and faces charges of human trafficking; financial gain from human trafficking; aiding and abetting prostitution; one count of living off the avails of prostitution and one count of sexual assault.

The alleged victim is a 26-year-old woman.

Insp. Chris MacNaughton of Kings District RCMP said the arrest followed a three-month investigation.

“We received information from the community about suspicious activity at a local hotel,” MacNaughton said on Wednesday.

Rhyno has not yet entered a plea to the charges. He is scheduled to return to court Oct. 27.

More to come.
