** Updated: At 4:15 p.m., a Halifax Regional Police officer in a marked police vehicle stopped on Russell Street, observed a red Mazda sedan travelling at a high rate South bound on Gottingen Street and did not stop at the four-way stop at Russell Street.

The officer pulled onto Gottingen Street, at which point the red Mazda increased its speed continuing South on Gottingen Street. The police vehicle did not activate any emergency equipment. As the red Mazda approached the intersection of Gottingen Street and North Street, the traffic light was red. The red Mazda did not stop and continued through the intersection hitting a car turning left on onto Gottingen Street from North Street, which then caused that vehicle to hit a car travelling South on Gottingen Street and then hitting a parked truck.

The police vehicle then activated both emergency lights and siren to respond to the motor vehicle collision.

The driver of the red Mazda fled on foot leaving an adult female in the car. The driver was apprehended by police after a brief foot pursuit a short distance away. Both the driver and female passenger of the red Mazda were transported to the Hospital as a precaution. There are no reported injuries. The license plate on the red Mazda was reported stolen, not the vehicle.

** Update: The driver will be facing charged with Dangerous Driving, Failing to Remain at the Scene of an Accident, Possession of Stolen Property (license plate), Resist Arrest, Obstruction and violations of court orders.

Fortunately, no serious injuries.

** HRP Correction from the previous release, the female passenger is not pregnant.
