Man Arrested in Fatal Fire

Investigators with the HRP/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit have arrested a man in relation to a fatal fire which occurred yesterday in Halifax.

At 2:56 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the 3600 block of Acadia Street for a house on fire. Firefighters entering the structure discovered and removed 92-year-old Daniel Maclennan , shortly after their arrival. The man was transported to hospital by EHS where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy was performed by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service and the cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation.

At 6:30 p.m., investigators arrested a 49-year-old man in relation to this incident. He is currently in custody and will be interviewed by investigators this morning. The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid.

Forensic and fire investigators will be back at the scene this morning to determine the cause of the blaze.
