Man attempts to assault police with knife

Halifax Regional Police has charged a man in relation to a weapons incident that occurred in Dartmouth last night.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., police responded to a property damage call at an apartment building on Roleika Drive. Officers located a 33-year-old man with a minor injury who had caused the damage to the building.  He was treated by EHS at the scene. As officers were leaving, the man attempted to assault officers with a knife. The man was taken into custody after a brief struggle. There were no reported injuries to officers.

Christopher Michael Gallant, 33, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Mischief
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Resisting arrest
  • Assault a peace officer with a weapon (x3)
