Man charged after fleeing Police

A man is facing numerous charges following an incident earlier today in Bedford.

On December 22, 2019 at 1:06 p.m.,​ Police responded to​ Bedford Place Mall located at 1658 Bedford Highway​ after multiples callers reported a​ suspect assaulting an older man following a road rage incident in front of the mall. The suspect had left the mall before police arrival.

Shortly after, another caller reported a vehicle​ involved in a collision​ at the intersection of Bedford Highway and Union Street. Officers pulled the vehicle over and as they approached the vehicle; the driver drove away at a high rate of speed weaving in and out of traffic. The vehicle proceeded thru the intersection of Dartmouth Road and Bedford Highway where it collided with another vehicle. It then proceeded to the Sunnyside Mall parking lot where​ it hit another vehicle before fleeing the area. The vehicle was not​ followed by police further.

The vehicle was​ located in the 200 block of Rocky Lake Drive after it hit a tree. The driver was located a short distance away and arrested without incident. No one was injured following​ all of the​ collisions.

A 31-year-old Bedford man is being held in custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Monday. He faces charges of Assault, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police and Driving while Prohibited.
