Man Charged with Weapon Offences

A man has been charged in connection to an incident that occurred early yesterday morning in Halifax.

On June 12, at approximately 1 a.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a call in the area of Artz Street and Brunswick Street. A 30-year-old taxi driver was dropping off a passenger at that location when the passenger demanded his property and made mention that he had a firearm, although none was seen. The suspect took the driver’s cell phone and left on foot. The driver was not injured and officers were unable to locate the suspect.
 
At 11 a.m., officers arrested 20-year-old Lance Marcus Sampson in connection to this incident. He was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun, crack cocaine and the stolen property. He was held in custody overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial court later today. He faces the following charges:
 
CC 86(2) – Unsafe storage of a firearm
CC 88(1) – Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
CC 90(1) – Carrying a concealed weapon
CC 92(1) – Possession of a firearm without license
CC 95(1) – Possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
CC 96(1) – Possession of a firearm obtained by crime
CC 117.01(1) – Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order
CC 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000
CC 733.1(1) (a) – Breach of probation order (two counts)
CDSA 5(2) – Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking
