Man dies following tragic hunting accident

A 60-year old man has died following a tragic hunting accident that occurred last evening in a wooded area near Rifle Range Rd. in Belmont.

The initial investigation has determined that the victim and a 41-year-old man were hunting in the area. They were following a deer, and became separated. The younger man shot at what he thought was the deer, and accidentally caused a fatal injury to the victim. Police and EHS attended the scene and were not able to revive the older man.

The incident is being investigated by the RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crimes Unit. RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Colchester District RCMP assisted at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
