Man dies in fatal bo­ating accident – Por­ters Lake,

On August 27 just be­fore 11:30 p.m., Hal­ifax District RCMP received a call of a boat going around Po­rters Lake in circl­es, and the caller stated that someone had been heard calling for help.

Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency assi­sted at the scene wi­th two boats. Eastern Shore Ground Search and Rescue was also called. They and several local boaters assisted with searc­hing the area. The boat was located and confirmed to be unoc­cupied, and it was taken back to shore. The search continued through the night. A DNR helicopter and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team were called to assist with the search in the morning.

At 8:13 a.m., Halifax District RCMP was contacted via 911 by a person who found the body of the missing boater in the water near his home. The indivi­dual who was located was confirmed to be the missing boater from the previous ev­ening, a 62-year-old man from West Chezz­etcook.

The cause of this in­cident is being inve­stigated.
