On August 27 just before 11:30 p.m., Halifax District RCMP received a call of a boat going around Porters Lake in circles, and the caller stated that someone had been heard calling for help.
Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency assisted at the scene with two boats. Eastern Shore Ground Search and Rescue was also called. They and several local boaters assisted with searching the area. The boat was located and confirmed to be unoccupied, and it was taken back to shore. The search continued through the night. A DNR helicopter and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team were called to assist with the search in the morning.
At 8:13 a.m., Halifax District RCMP was contacted via 911 by a person who found the body of the missing boater in the water near his home. The individual who was located was confirmed to be the missing boater from the previous evening, a 62-year-old man from West Chezzetcook.
The cause of this incident is being investigated.
