HRP release:
On May 9 at approximately 6:50 p.m., two officers were in the parking lot of the Halifax Regional Police Headquarters, located at 1975 Gottingen Street in Halifax, when a vehicle pulled in and a female driver exited. The woman demanded officers arrest the male sitting in the passenger seat, stating he was breaching his court orders and was intoxicated. The man quickly exited the vehicle and then sat in the driver’s seat. Officers believed he was attempting to leave and was impaired. Officers tried to prevent the man from closing the driver’s side door, but he resisted. The man then jumped out and assaulted both officers. Officers were able to take the man into custody without further incident.
There were no reported physical injuries.
Devante Clyke, 30, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:
- Assault peace officer (x2)
- Assault by chocking
- Resist arrest
- Causing a disturbance
