Man faces charges for possession of contraband cigarettes, Abercrombie, N.S.

A Pictou County man is facing charges under the Excise and Revenue Acts after being found in possession of contraband cigarettes.

On Tuesday, October 29th, 2013, the Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit (PCISCEU), with the assistance of Pictou County RCMP, stopped a vehicle in Abercrombie.

A 41-year-old male and a 17-year-old youth were arrested, without incident, in relation to an ongoing investigation into illegal cigarettes. Police executed a search warrant on the vehicle, a 2001 red Dodge Caravan, and seized approximately 80,000 illegal, unstamped cigarettes. The vehicle has been seized under the Excise Act.

The youth was later released without charges. The adult male will appear later in Pictou Provincial Court at a later date. Charges are pending under the Excise Act and the Revenue Act. The investigation continues.
