Man facing impaired charges following four-vehicle collision

Halifax District RCMP charged a driver from Antigonish County following a four-vehicle collision on Hwy. 7 in Preston last evening.

At 5:20 p.m. RCMP responded to a collision in the 1900 block of Hwy. 7, in Preston. The collision involved four vehicles including two SUVs and two cars. A red car veered into oncoming traffic and struck another car and then two SUVs.​ The passenger of the red car, a 36-year-old woman from Truro, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.​ The other five people involved were checked and released at the scene.

The driver of the red car showed signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene without incident.​ He was transported to Cole Harbour Detachment to provide further breath samples.

James Morris​ Lanceleve, 35, has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance, Operate a Conveyance with Blood Alcohol in excess of 80 mgs% and Fail to Comply with Recognizance x 7. Further charges are pending. Lanceleve was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on​ November 25 at 9:30 a.m.

The Hwy. 7 was closed for several more hours while an RCMP collision analyst attended the scene. The road has since been re-opened.

The investigation is ongoing.
