March Traffic Section Update: Buckle Up!

In their continued effort to address traffic safety and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the Halifax Regional Police Traffic Section along with patrol members are focusing on seatbelt enforcement during the month of March.

It is well known and documented that seatbelts save lives so police are reminding motorists to buckle up. Drivers are responsible to ensure that passengers under the age of 16 are wearing their seatbelts. Parents are also reminded that children must use a car seat or booster seat until they are at least 4’9” (145 cm) or age 9. Summary offence tickets under these sections of the Motor Vehicle Act carry a fine of $180 and two points on a driver’s license upon conviction.
