Police charge Halifax man for robbery

Members of the General Investigative Section have charged a man for multiple robberies that occurred in Halifax last week.

Halifax Regional Police responded to four separate robberies between January 30 and January 31, 2020 at several locations throughout Halifax, where a man entered the business and stated he had a weapon while demanding money.​ No weapon was seen and there were no reported injuries during any of the incidents.​

Officers were able to identify the suspect, and on Friday evening, members of the Central and West Quick Response Units arrested Shawn St. Claire McOnie, 44, of Halifax, in the area of Main Avenue and Titus Street in Halifax.​ He was taken into custody without incident.

McOnie has been charged with four count robbery in relation to:

  • January 30, 2020: robbery at Atlantic Superstore Smoke Shop, 3601 Joseph Howe Drive
  • January 30, 2020: robbery at Mobil Gas, 3627 Joseph Howe Drive
  • January 30, 2020: robbery at Sobey’s Griffin Smoke Shop, 287 Lacewood Drive
  • January 31, 2020: robbery at Bank of Nova Scotia, 3480 Dutch Village Road

He is also facing two counts of breach of a release order. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today.
