Meteghan RCMP investigate fatal motor vehicle collision, Salmon River, N.S.

Meteghan RCMP is investigating a two vehicle motor vehicle collision with one fatality. On January 13th at approximately 10:20 p.m., Meteghan RCMP with assistance from Yarmouth & Digby RCMP, Salmon River and Meteghan Fire Departments and EHS responded to a 911 call of a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 101 in Salmon River.

On January 13th at approximately 10:20 p.m., Meteghan RCMP with assistance from Yarmouth & Digby RCMP, Salmon River and Meteghan Fire Departments and EHS responded to a 911 call of a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 101 in Salmon River.

Preliminary investigation determined a pickup truck with two occupants, a 50-year-old female driver and a 15-year-old male both from Lower Saulnierville, had been driving east bound on a straight stretch of highway and a mid-sized car with a 52-year-old lone male driver from Rossway, Digby County had been travelling west. The vehicles collided head-on.

The female driver of the truck was airlifted to hospital in Halifax with serious non-life threatening injuries. The male passenger of the truck was not injured but went to hospital for assessment. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

An RCMP traffic analyst was called to the scene and is assisting Meteghan RCMP with the investigation. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
