The RCMP are investigating the sudden death of a newborn baby in Liverpool.

On Monday evening, a 25-year-old woman brought a dead male infant to Queens General Hospital in Liverpool.

The mother gave birth at home on Wednesday evening and kept the infant at her residence until she turned the body over to medical staff on Monday.

Queens District RCMP were notified and an investigation was started. No charges have been laid yet but the mother and her common law husband have been arrested.

An autopsy has been performed but the results are not known at this time.
